Maye is one of the most dynamic and versatile artists working in Taos, New Mexico. Born in Taos and raised in New Mexico and Latin America she creates cutting edge and innovative drawings and sculptures. She began showing her work in High School at the Stables Gallery in Taos and has been included in gallery and museum shows throughout the Southwest for the past 25 years.
Torres weaves together the precision of science and the depths of mythology using traditional materials such as bronze, ceramic and pencil. She has won numerous awards and is displayed in private and public collections throughout the world. The Workforce Training Center (A-TVI) in Albuquerque, NM houses the largest public bronze installation to date. Her work is in the collections of Moctezuma Ezparza, Luis Valdez and Guillermo Gomez-Pena, the recipients of the infamous Taos Talking Picture Festival's Cineaste Award. She has been featured in many art publications throughout the United States along side artists such as Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keefe. Most recently included in "100 Artists of the Southwest", compiled and edited by Douglas Bullis (Artbooks).
Her mastery of technique and medium is complimented by the intriguing subject matter that emerges in the work. Torres art is said to be compelling to the point of turning her desire for self-exploration back on the viewer.
